Winter is now long gone, and spring is exploding all over New York City! Most winters are just gross, and this one was no exception here.
In February, Kerry and Max de-iced their wings and flew off to Tulum, Mexico, to get hitched, and asked me to come along and do the makeup. Absolutely no arm-twisting ensued, and soon I was packing a seriously reduced makeup kit, my bikini and coconut oil, and jetting down there to work my magic, practice my Spanish, and eat every bowl of ceviche I could find.
Let’s start with my kit, which I condensed into two small zippy Zuca bags, my very old MAC brush roll, pencil case, and of course, lippy touch-up kits. Both my makeup kit and personal items squeezed into my carry-on and backpack (though I had to check the carry-on because of the liquids I brought with me – gah).
The bride, Kerry, and I did a trial, so I knew her skin tone, even with a few days of sun, and brought my Makeup Forever HD foundation shades (drammed into Muji bottles) for her, and for the two moms. Also included were bridal staples such as Makeup Forever Full Cover concealer, Makeup Forever camouflage cream palette, Stila 10-in-1 for lighter coverage, MAC Technakohl waterproof pencils in Photogravure and Graphblack, MAC Fluidline in Blacktrack, Ben Nye banana powder and Laura Mercier translucent loose setting powder, lashes/tweezers/adhesive, waterproof mascara, eye palette, cheek palette, and special pigments for the eyes. Beach wedding special additions included Nars Illuminator in Orgasm (used alone and with lotion to spread on limbs), and Jane Iredale Quad Bronzer in Moonglow. Would I do any wedding, let alone a beach wedding, without Urban Decay All Nighter spray? Of course not!
Kerry’s look was gypsy bohemian (as you can see from her amazing Lihi Hod gown, featured in the April issue of Martha Stewart Weddings), so I smudged about 5 shades of shadow on her eyes, and enhanced the rockstar quality with MAC pigment powder in Copper and Kevyn Aucoin loose shimmer shadow in Candlelight – delish. I cooked up a special coral lipstick for her, curled her hair and carefully laid on the custom headpiece by Hushed Commotion, and she was off for her first look with Max.
Please enjoy a few select pictures from the wedding. Much happiness and love to the couple, and thank you for bringing me down to Tulum to share the nuptials!
