I wear mascara nearly every day of the week. It’s a desert-island item for me. Why? Even though my hair is very dark, my lashes are a light brown/wimpy blondish color. My eyes are light, so I like to create definition on my eyes, a frame, even if I’m not wearing eyeliner. That’s why I love an extra-dark mascara pigment, because it provides definition for my eyes.
I love trying new mascaras. They are usually affordable, not a long-lasting commitment (since you should chuck your mascara every three months), and you can wardrobe your mascaras according to your needs (waterproof, blue or plum colored, full and thick or soft and natural, etc).
Staying power – the Grande Lash doesn’t smudge. I also love the volume, which is partially created by the hourglass brush. There may be a learning curve with the hourglass brush, but give it some time and effort. If what you want are thicker, fuller, more doll-like lashes, this brush and formula will give you the ample lash you seek. As with most things, technique is everything (see below). I also find that I prefer most mascara formulas after the package has been opened and aged for a few weeks.
Overall, I loved this mascara and will add it to my list of top luxury mascaras. Some reviews I read of the product noted that it doesn’t lengthen lashes – well, I find length to be more of a technique issue. Here I go, overdelivering with a lash lesson during a Mascara Monday review:
- curl your lashes with a warm lash curler! (yeah, I know I’ve delved into a separate lesson here)
- starting at the root of your lashes, press into the lash and wiggle your brush lightly, coating the lash
- if you want, you can stroke down on the TOP of the lash, to cover any fallen eyeshadow (ooooh, pro trick)
- hit the tips of your lashes for length and curl
- don’t forget to spend some time on the inner and outer corners, and lower lashes
The product line is comparable in price to other brand names you will find at your favorite department stores – I found at least 25 other brands offering mascara at $25, which is the current retail price of this item.
