Yep, I took a quick break from blogging and posting at the end of the summer – needed a mental break from my work break!
Luckily, the loveliest bride called me over the summer and asked if I was available for her date, September 12, 2020. Why, yes, I was, and it was going to be my first day back at work since March 2020.
I was so thrilled. Not only was I so eager to get back to work, the wedding was in Martha’s Vineyard, MA, so I was able to spend a little more time with my mom over the summer because of Elizabeth and Taylor’s wedding. One of the bright spots in this overall darkness has been the time we have spent with our family, all time we never would have gotten in regular times, and all time spent that we can never get back. So, it was the ultimate win-win. Plus, more beach time!
Elizabeth and her boo, Taylor, were meant to have a big, festive wedding on that date, with lots of friends, family, food, dancing – the works. We all know what happened. Massachusetts set guidelines for gathering, and very small groups were allowed, but the couple made the decision to postpone the big celebration to next year (and were lucky enough to book the same location for 2021).
Instead of the big party, or an intimate group event, they chose to elope on their original date, at the original location, on the most stunning late-summer afternoon. They made a bold choice and it worked out – just look at the joy in their faces.
Let’s just talk for a moment about this elevated level of beauty – it’s called natural beauty, and the bride just owns it. Girlfriend is a high school math teacher! (Pause – let that sink in for a bit). Yes, she’s a math teacher and full-on babe, and super-stylish.
The pictures, by Lucy Cuneo, are some of the most romantic I have ever seen in 10 years of working weddings. I’m thrilled that I was able to participate in this day.
To the beauty: Elizabeth has long, naturally curly hair, and she wanted to embrace the texture. I blew it out, set it, and styled it with some white stems from her incredible bouquet from Emily at Morrice Flowers in Vineyard Haven.
Elizabeth wanted my signature, “natural enhanced” look, and she made my work look so good. After lots of luscious skincare, we did light eyeshadows from Viseart in neutrals with a pop of golden shimmer, cream cheek and concealer from Kevyn Aucoin, and Temptu airbrush. She and Taylor are very kissy, so we used a new L’Oreal long-wearing liquid lipstick in a neutral, lippy color. Just enough highlight from Kevyn Aucoin, and a grinning Elizabeth was in her gown, with smashing earrings and sandals, and off in a vintage car to meet her beloved. I was off for a lobster roll dinner with my mom.
Now, about the pics of the couple jumping off of a bridge – seems crazy, right? It’s an island tradition to jump off of “Jaws Bridge”. While not technically legal, hundreds of people do it everyday in season (I have NOT), including my little nieces. The couple arrived at the bridge at dawn with the photographer to “take the leap”. We are glad they did.
Much happiness and love to Elizabeth and Taylor, and thank you for including me in your gorgeous day.
