Mother’s Day

May 11, 2018 by Sharon Becker

Mother’s Day is special at SB Beauty, because every weekend we work with gorgeous mothers from around the world. We love helping them feel confident and special on what is truly a family day.

The cosmetics industry refers to women of a certain age as “mature” – mature skin, mature look… nice euphemism, right? Our team has experience with clients of all ages, skin colors, hair types, etc, so we can make mom, grandma, and your dear great-aunt all feel fabulous and included.

There are certain techniques and products we use on mature skin and hair. Most importantly, we have the compassion and light touch needed to soothe frayed nerves and keep the mood light on this happy day.

Many clients ask if they should include the mother-in-law or step-mother in the bridal prep. Without knowing your family dynamic, we cannot make a definitive recommendation. What we have noticed in our experience is that everyone loves being included in the prep on this special day, and if the family dynamic will support it, the generous invitation is always appreciated.  We can structure the beauty timeline so that the flow of clients in the bridal suite suits the personalities in the family (if ya know what I mean).

Lastly, Happy Mother’s Day to mama bear Gail Becker, of course, as well as Lee Becker Salamone, Shannon Becker, and all of our friends, associates – and clients! – who are mothers. It’s the biggest job in the world!

October Wedding, Plaza Hotel, NYC – Soft Glamour

April 25, 2018 by Sharon Becker

Danielle and Sam got married on a beautiful day in October 2017 at The Plaza Hotel, NYC. First, I must say that Danielle is a total beauty, and she knows herself well; she doesn’t need much makeup – just the “right” makeup. I was happy to oblige.
All beautiful makeup looks start with perfect skin, and that’s what we did. I juiced up the moisture in her skin and defined her features so her beauty could come through – without makeup getting in the way. Just a little brow, some soft lashes, creamy color in the cheek, and her glorious hair.
Not only is Danielle a beauty, but she has two gorgeous sisters and a wonderful, warm, stunning mother. They are a very close family and I really loved working with them. Walker Studios did the gorgeous photos, and the event was planned by Eyal Tessler.
Enjoy this soft, delicate luxury!

Celebrating St. Patrick’s Day with our Irish-American Brides!

March 17, 2018 by Sharon Becker

Top of the morning to you! This St. Patrick’s Day, we celebrate the beauty of our Irish-American brides, particularly the lovely Kaitlyn. She and her boo were married in September 2017 at a church in Brooklyn and then partied at the Boathouse in Prospect Park, Brooklyn. We loved working with this auburn-haired, blue-eyed, freckled beauty who’s also an avid runner and has a big job.

Kaitlyn did not want to cover up her freckles, and neither did I! SB Beauty wants to celebrate each client’s individual beauty. Thanks, Kaitlyn, for including us in your wedding day!

Perfect skin, enhanced – not covered!
I’ll catch your tears when you have a moment!
Love the open-back Pronovias dress with illusion front.
Enjoying every moment!

Travel Skincare

lineup of travel products
Remnants of my travel skincare regime.

Xin chào, các bạn (hello, friends)!
I just returned from an epic adventure in Vietnam, where it’s sunny, hot, and alternately dry and sticky.

Spring is soooo close – but it’s not here yet. You might even have a warm-weather trip planned for April, just to grab some precious vitamin D (so important for your overall well-being). If you do, please pack your kit accordingly. As a lover of all things skincare, I have some thoughts. Here is what I pack for myself:

  • Eye makeup remover – gotta be gentle with those peepers!
  • Facial cleanser – now is the perfect time to use up those sample sizes hanging out in your drawer
  • Serum – I want to offer my face needs as much love as I can
  • Moisturizer
  • Serious sunscreen for face and neck – this is my favorite, from Shiseido and available at Sephora
  • Sunscreen stick for my nose, forehead, and chin – great for touchups

As with all important matters in life, consistency is everything. I do a full skincare regimen morning and night, never take a night off, and I think my skin looks pretty good for my age. These items will fit in your carry on luggage, so no excuses! Oh, and I usually buy a big body sunscreen when I arrive at my destination (easier in some locations than others, so plan accordingly).

Happy trails!

Genevieve, holiday wedding

January 3, 2018 by Sharon Becker

As a student of art history, I enjoyed the way Vermeer molded his subjects with his depiction of natural light.

I met Genevieve through her planner, who came to me rather last minute. The bride had hired another company, but couldn’t find a way to convey her makeup style to the artists. The planner called me, knowing that I can not only handle a “no-makeup makeup”, but make the bride and her party feel glamorous even with little makeup.

The bride and I met, and we hit it off – she’s bright and hilarious, and I couldn’t wait for her wedding! The wedding day brought a little snow, lots of gorgeous little kids in fancy outfits, and overall holiday cheer. The bride looked amazing (hats off to Jaime Carson for the facials!) – and check out her Vermeer moment by the window!

In one year, she got married, bought a house, and had a baby. I adore her and am very grateful for the three additional brides she referred to me in 2017. The planner was right – we were a match! I am so lucky to have all of these fabulous brides in my life.
